Unrestored Vintage Camaro Certification System

The Vintage Camaro Certifications are designed to fill a unique niche in the Camaro hobby. It is a program designed to encourage the preservation of originality in the Camaro line, and to ascribe appropriate status, recognition, and appreciation of the unrestored first and second generation Camaro. Vintage Camaros are unrestored, odriginal Camaros that have significant areas that remain intact, unrestored from their orignal form.

OUR MISSION:

To provide recognition for the unrestored Camaro and Chevelle, and to encourage owners to display and retain these benchmark cars in their present Unrestored state.

To provide status to unrestored Camaros, by providing a venue where original cars showing wear are indeed preferable to ones that are improperly restored. We believe these cars are like art work and just like an original painting they are more valuable than a restored or reproduced examples.

To provide appreciation for the past and present owners of these vehicles who have preserved these cars. These time capsules provide us with factory processes finishes and assembly methods and our program is a repository for the serious restorers and the hobby can all benefit. o

Offer the hobbyist the opportunity to have their Vehicle certified objectively, fairly and provides provenance and pedigree.

Vintage Certification represents a repository of factory correct standards by which the hobby and serious restorers can all benefit.

Vintage Certification identifies a Vehicle as having completed a thorough exhausting inspection process, which references factory standards, and at a level as established by Vintage Certification Group

The judging process for these cars is nothing short of intense. These vehicles will be pored over and all of the parts and components will be thoroughly checked for originality and date codes. The judging team will literally spend hours inside, outside and underneath these vehicles. A fully detailed list will itemize each of the components, and the owner will receive a comprehensive report summarizing the judge's findings. Any components that deviate from how the car left the assembly line will be noted and appropriate point deductions will be made.

Vintage Certifications are intended to promote the preservation of unrestored Camaros whether whole or in part. Vintage Certification is not for everyone. Clearly, in most competition arenas, additional points will be garnered by adhering to an 'end of production line' standard of correct newness. Vintage Certification on the other hand, adheres to the emerging philosophy that an original car showing wear is preferable to one that is improperly restored. Vintage Certification recognizes the Camaro and encourages the owner to retain and display the car in its present condition. Collectively, Vintage Camaros will represent a repository of factory correct standards by which the hobby and serious restorers can all benefit.

Reference areas that are scored are:

A.  Engine Compartment Area, Exterior Body, Interior Body, Underbody, and Trunk; and

B.  Vintage Certifications are divided into four divisions:

  1. Vintage Legend - Camaros that are 80 -90+% unrestored in all five reference areas
  2. Vintage Legacy - Camaros that are minimally 50% unrestored in at least three reference areas
  3. Vintage Reference - Camaros that are unrestored in at least one reference area
  4. Vintage Icon - Camaros that have original unrestored components disbursed throughout.

First Generation and early Second Generation Camaros will be considered for Certification. Space is limited due to the amount of time required to check all the components. Owners are cautioned that there will be zero tolerance for misrepresented Camaros. If the history of the Camaro cannot be presented, the Camaro cannot be certified. Owners fabricating false documentation, re-stamping components, or presenting replaced parts as original, will be immediately dismissed from all participation within Vintage Camaro Certification, and be barred from future participation.
