Unrestored Vintage Camaro Certification System

Given the level of performance and style of early Camaros, it is sometimes easy to forget that they are vintage automobiles. Vintage Camaros are unrestored, original Camaros. They are those Camaros that have significant areas that remain intact, unrestored, and in their original form. They are those Camaros that have at least, in part, stood the test of time.

The Vintage Camaro Certifications are designed to fill a unique niche in the Camaro hobby. It is a program designed to encourage the preservation of originality in the Camaro line, and to ascribe appropriate status, recognition, and appreciation of the unrestored first and second genration Camaro.

Vintage Certifications are intended to promote the preservation of unrestored Camaros whether whole or in part. Vintage Certification is not for everyone. Clearly, in most competition arenas, additional points will be garnered by adhering to an 'end of production line' standard of correct newness. Vintage Certification on the other hand, adheres to the emerging philosophy that an original car showing wear is preferable to one that is improperly restored. Vintage Certification recognizes the Camaro and encourages the owner to retain and display the car in its present condition. Collectively, Vintage Camaros will represent a repository of factory correct standards by which the hobby and serious restorers can all benefit.

Reference areas that are scored are:

A.  Engine Compartment Area, Exterior Body, Interior Body, Underbody, and Trunk; and

B.  Vintage Certifications are divided into four divisions:

  1. Vintage Legend - Camaros that are 80 -90+% unrestored in all five reference areas
  2. Vintage Legacy - Camaros that are minimally 50% unrestored in at least three reference areas
  3. Vintage Reference - Camaros that are unrestored in at least one reference area
  4. Vintage Icon - Camaros that have original unrestored components disbursed throughout

First Generation and early Second Generation Camaros will be considered for Certification. Space is limited due to the amount of time required to check all the components. Owners are cautioned that there will be zero tolerance for misrepresented Camaros. If the history of the Camaro cannot be presented, the Camaro cannot be certified. Owners fabricating false documentation, re-stamping components, or presenting replaced parts as original, will be immediately dismissed from all participation within Vintage Camaro Certification, and be barred from future participation. For additional information about entering a car in the Vintage Camaro Certification System, please contact American Camaro Association headquarters, or you may contact Vintage Camaro directly...
